Who we are
Farmer & Co. is the trading name of Andy Farmer, 11 Ilchester Street, Seaham SR7 7LW. He is the controller for the personal data described here. Contact: hello@farmerandco.co.uk or 07586 869537.
This website currently gives information about our services only. You cannot book online yet, and the website does not ask you for any personal details.
Visiting our website
When you visit our website, our server records technical data such as your IP address, the page requested, the website you came from, the date and time and your browser type. We need this to deliver the website and to keep it secure (legitimate interest, UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). These logs are deleted after 14 days.
We use no cookies for visitors and no tracking or analytics. Our fonts are served from our own server, so your browser does not connect to Google or other third parties. Only our staff and contractors get a cookie, to stay logged in to our internal pages.
When you email or call us
If you email or call us, we use your name, contact details and what you tell us – for example your postcode, a description or photos of your garden – to answer your enquiry and to give you a quote (steps before a contract at your request, Art. 6(1)(b)).
Emails sent to hello@ or info@ pass through our domain provider Namecheap, Inc. (USA), which forwards them to a mailbox hosted by STRATO AG in Germany. This mailbox is provided by Benjamin Farmer, who runs our IT (see below); he passes your enquiry on to us and we answer it. This means the content of your email passes through the United States, and no specific safeguard is currently in place for this. If you prefer, you can call us instead of emailing.
Our website is run for us by Benjamin Farmer, who provides our IT services and processes data only on our instructions. The server is hosted by 1blu GmbH in Germany. The UK recognises the European Economic Area as providing an adequate level of protection, so no further safeguards are needed for this transfer.
We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.
Contractors and staff
If you work with us as a contractor, we store your name, trading name, phone, email, home postcode and the approximate location of that postcode (to match you with jobs in your area), the area you cover, your insurance expiry date and a login PIN (stored only in encrypted form). We use this to manage our work with you (contract, Art. 6(1)(b)). If tax law requires us to keep or report records of payments to you, for example under the Construction Industry Scheme, we will tell you before we ask for your tax details (such as your UTR), and we will pass them to HM Revenue & Customs only where the law requires it (legal obligation, Art. 6(1)(c)). We keep contractor records for as long as you work with us, and after that for as long as tax law requires.
How long we keep it
- Emails and notes of calls: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and for up to 12 months afterwards. If you then book with us, we keep what is needed for the booking as part of our booking records.
- Website logs: 14 days.
If you contact us as a customer, you do not have to give us any personal data. Without your contact details we cannot reply to your enquiry or give you a quote.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict how we use it, and to receive the data you gave us in a machine-readable format or have it sent to someone else (data portability). We do not rely on your consent for any of the processing described here.
Your right to object. Where we use your data on the basis of our legitimate interests (website logs), you can object at any time. We will then stop unless we have compelling reasons, for example to defend a legal claim.
